How to Throw a Legendary Virtual Happy Hour for Your Friends and Colleagues!

Virtual Team Happy Hour Ideas

Zoom happy hours can start to get a bit repetitive after a while.  After spending eight months hosting over 700 games, here at Bar None Games, we have learned different ways on how to make virtual happy hours more exciting for you, your coworkers, friends and family.  Here are some tips we have discovered on how to switch up the same old virtual happy hour to one that gets people excited and coming back for more!

Paperless Post

Send out a Paperless Post to make it official!  Invitations are an easy way to help build up the excitement for the virtual activity.  Not only are Paperless Posts festive, but they also keep your attendees organized and allow you to easily keep track of who has RSVPed to the virtual happy hour.

Pick a Theme

Need suggestions?

  • Say goodbye to winter, crank up the heat and throw a tropical/beach happy hour!

  • Bring back the days of the week with Taco Tuesday

  • Longing for a year other than 2020 and 2021?  Throw back to the 80s!

  • Dust off your bow tie and little black dress and throw a black-tie party with champagne

  • Reminisce over your camp days and break out color war!  Have each team dress in a different color and stir up some healthy competition

Drinks & Snacks

Is it really a happy hour if you don’t have drinks or your favorite bar snack?

Recreate your favorite drink from your local pub at home!  You no longer need to worry about making it just in time for happy hour pricing when your local grocery and liquor stores have you covered.

And don’t forget to make your favorite bar snack.  If you’ve spent your quarantine watching the Cooking Channel, use this virtual happy hour as an excuse to show off your new culinary expertise.  If you’re more into binging Bridgerton, keep it simple and whip out that bag of pita chips sitting next to your couch.  And as a bonus, no paying for extra guac when your kitchen is just a few feet away.

Play Games

Tired of the same conversations during Zooms?  Games are an amazing way to keep people engaged during virtual happy hours.  Check out our post on the Best Virtual Work Events that Office Managers have Hosted for different and unique ideas on how to keep people engaged.

Pick a Fun Background

Picking a fun Zoom background gets your creative juices flowing and hides that fact that you have failed to clean your apartment in the past year.  Go with the theme, project your team name, or embarrass your friend with a picture from high school he hoped would never resurface.  We have found that creative backgrounds are fantastic icebreakers and let people get to know you better!

Keep the Convo Light

By happy hour, no one wants to think about work, the pandemic or winter anymore.  It’s a time to relax, have a beverage and a snack and show off that puppy you impulse adopted!
