4 inspiring virtual Earth Day activities to honor nature at work

Earth Day is a global event that celebrates the earth and all of its inhabitants. It is a day to take action to protect our planet and its resources. While we may not be able to go out in numbers to plant trees or clean the environment like before, there are ways you can celebrate Mother Nature from the comfort of your home or office. Here are virtual Earth Day activities for any remote team looking to contribute to our environment.

Earth-themed word search

In a word search game, words are usually hidden in a grid of letters, and the solver must do their best to find them. This game is a great refresher for your team to learn more about the environment while improving their problem-solving skills. When creating the puzzle, ensure that it contains earth-themed words, including “nature”, “climate”, “conservation”, “habitat”, “recycling”, and “environment”, just to mention a few.

Nature-themed photo scavenger hunt

One of the best ways to appreciate the earth, have fun, and celebrate Earth Day virtually is to conduct a nature-themed photo scavenger hunt as a team. To start, give team members a list of things they should capture with their cameras or phones on Earth Day. This can be anything from the biggest tree in their neighborhood, a beautiful natural park near them, or a beautiful natural landscape to nearby lakes, insects, or birds. Everyone can then present their photos on Zoom or send them to the company’s Slack channel at the end of the Earth Day celebration. This is a great way to encourage the team to go out and experience nature while having fun as well.

Take a virtual tour with your team

One of the best ways to immerse yourself and your entire team in the Earth Day celebration is to take a virtual tour of nature. The Earth Day official organization has provided a map of virtual activities happening around the world, and you can encourage your team to join these events. Your team can also register and join other virtual events organized by nonprofits and government institutions, including the Earth Day Initiative, One Earth Film Festival, Environmental Working Group, NASA, and The Sierra Club.

Make a donation to a nature-based nonprofit

There are many organizations that tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our natural environment. Use Earth Day to support some of these nonprofits by donating or volunteering towards their causes. Some nonprofits to consider include the World Wildlife Fund, Center for Biological Diversity, World Resources Institute, Environmental Defense Fund, Friends of the Earth, and The Ocean Foundation
