From around the remote work world: 10 exceptional Zoom games for team building

Team building between and amongst remote employees can be a hard nut to crack. But with interesting Zoom games, teams can have fun, build relationships, and beat boredom and isolation. With so many options to choose from, it can be overwhelming trying to find a game that everyone loves and relates to. Here are some of the best Zoom games to try with your remote team.

Guess the movie games

These types of games offer remote teams the opportunity to create excitement at work, discover the type of shows co-workers love watching, and reveal the movie aficionados in the team. The game is all about creating scenes of popular movies and asking the team to guess the movie. To start, create a playlist of movie scenes and host them on YouTube or on your computer. Once participants are ready, play these movie scenes by sharing your screen (just make sure not to disclose the movie name!). Ask participants to guess the name of the movie from each scene by submitting their answers through the chat box in Zoom. The first player to guess correctly to each scene becomes the winner.

Virtual murder mystery game

Virtual murder mystery games are fun to play. They can test players’ problem-solving skills, and your team will love them - who wouldn’t want to be a detective on a hunt for a killer? Start by gathering a host of mystery murder scenarios from the web. Divide the team into groups of three or four and create Zoom breakout rooms for each group. The first group to solve their case wins the round. For large remote teams, some employees can volunteer to moderate the groups and help lead the flow of events for better engagement.

Virtual scavenger hunts

This is a scavenger hunt, but in a virtual environment on Zoom, where the location for game play becomes the homes of your remote employees. To play, make a list of items you would want participants to hunt for. Once the game starts, show the list to your team on Zoom and challenge them to hunt for the items on the list. Each item found should earn the hunter some points, and the player who finds the most items on the list wins the game. There’s no formula for the type of items you include in a list, and it can include things like the most recent books they bought, a new kitchen gadget, or the oldest item in their room.

Trivia games

Trivia is one of the best Zoom games to play with your remote team, helping you test the team’s knowledge on weird, random, and interesting topics while having fun. Make a list of trivia questions using Bar None Games. Your trivia can include questions from sports, pop culture, current affairs, weird stuff, and just about anything you think would be interesting to the team. For small teams, questions can be given to individual players to answer. Large remote teams can divide questions between groups of three or four and use Zoom breakout rooms to get each group to answer these questions.

Things-in-common Zoom games

What do two or more people in your team have in common? Did they attend the same high school? Do they have the same celebrity crush? Or do they share the same birthday? You and your team can discover these and many other interesting things about colleagues through this Zoom game. Ask your team to make a list of their favorite things, the schools they attended, their birth dates, and any interesting thing about them that would be interesting for the team to learn about. Take this list and look for the things that two or more team members share: birthdates, favorite food, celebrity crush, or favorite TV show. Make these announcements on Zoom to help teams bond together and build lasting relationships.
